Privacy & Pilot Terms

Big Island Reliable is currently a pilot matching and information service for Hawaiʻi Island. These plain-language terms are intended for the pilot and should receive legal review before a broader commercial launch.

What Big Island Reliable does

We collect service requests, provider information, availability signals, property-report requests and opportunity-interest information to help organize and match local needs with potentially relevant providers or information.

We are not the service provider

Unless explicitly stated otherwise, Big Island Reliable is not the contractor, mechanic, plumber, electrician, engineer, surveyor, inspector, insurer, attorney, healthcare provider or other professional performing the work. Customers remain responsible for evaluating a provider’s credentials, licensing, insurance, pricing, scope, safety and suitability before hiring.

No guarantee

A match does not guarantee that a provider is available, accepts the job, quotes a particular price, completes the work or produces a particular result. Provider information can change between verification checks.

How customer request information is used

If you submit a Find Help request and authorize sharing, we may share the request and contact details with potential matched providers so they can evaluate or respond to the job. We may also use de-identified or aggregated request data to measure service gaps, route demand, fill rates and local market conditions.

Provider information and verification

Provider records can combine public information with details confirmed directly by the provider. We distinguish discovered information, contact verification, direct provider confirmation and credential checks. A discovered provider should not be interpreted as a participating or credential-verified provider.

Provider credits and paid opportunity access

Creating a provider account and submitting operating information are free. When Big Island Reliable identifies a qualified request that fits a provider’s service area and job requirements, the provider may preview the opportunity without charge and choose whether to spend Big Island Reliable credits to unlock the full customer details. Current opportunity tiers are 15, 25 or 40 credits. A provider is never required to purchase an opportunity.

Unless otherwise stated, no more than three providers may purchase access to the same opportunity. Purchasing access does not guarantee that the customer responds, hires the provider, proceeds with the work or pays any particular amount. Provider payment does not improve matching priority, verification status or credential status.

Payments, credits and adjustments

Payments to Big Island Reliable for credits or paid information products are processed through the site’s commerce and payment providers. Big Island Reliable credits are platform purchasing units used for eligible opportunity access; they are not cash, wages, deposits for contractor work or a guarantee of future opportunities. A credit adjustment may be issued for qualifying problems such as invalid customer contact information, a duplicate charge or an opportunity that was already closed before purchase. Ordinary outcomes such as a customer choosing another provider, changing their mind or not hiring the provider do not by themselves create a guaranteed credit or refund.

Customers and service providers contract and settle payment for the actual service work directly with each other unless Big Island Reliable expressly states otherwise. Big Island Reliable does not collect or distribute contractor job payments under the current model.

Property Reports and Opportunity Radar

Property Reports are paid information products offered at the price displayed at purchase. Research begins after the applicable order is confirmed and sufficient property details are provided. Opportunity Radar remains in pilot validation until its recurring paid access is separately launched. These products organize information from available sources and do not replace government determinations, professional inspections, licensed advice, legal advice, insurance advice, engineering, surveying or other regulated services. Funding, procurement, regulatory and development information should be rechecked at the original source before action.

Data practices

During the pilot, information may be stored in WordPress Forms records and internal operational files used to run the matching process. Access should be limited to operating the pilot, matching requests, maintaining provider records and producing the requested information service.

Accounts and dashboard records

Account registration is optional during the pilot. If you create an account, WordPress stores the account information needed for login and profile management. Big Island Reliable may create account-linked operational records—such as a customer request status record or provider opportunity record—so the logged-in user can view activity assigned to that account. These records are kept in non-public WordPress post states and are intended for account tracking, not public publishing.

Deleting or editing an account dashboard record does not necessarily cancel an active service request, provider conversation, or other coordination already in progress. The original intake, direct communications, and staff operational records remain the source of truth for active work.

Pilot changes

The service, categories, geography, pricing, verification process and operating rules may change while the pilot is being validated. Material changes should be reflected in the site before broader commercial use.
